Do you feel love? We sure do! As the delayed vocal makes its way in alongside a flanging, housey riff, sweeping melodious pads, guided ride hits and a smooth sax paves the way to the first climax - The bass hits and the house-influenced riff reintroduces itself. Sexy female vocals and heavenly strings lead the half-time vibe into the drop. Uptempo drums keep the focus while the vocal and sax ride it out in the background. Rolling through to the second drop, the vocal hits one more time paying tribute to “Casanova, a great lover.” Might want to play this one out to the end. Definite hotness.

It's been a while since we've seen a release by Finland's Kaleb on Blu Saphir, but the man is back with a new vibe to rock the dancefloor! The last we heard of Kaleb on Blus was back in 2005 with Hold My Love and Straight Ahead. Four years later, with new releases on Blindside, Defunked, Digital Tunes Dubs, Primetime, Pivotal, Spin and Midnight Sun Digital, the Fin makes his triumphant return home with Dusty Blinds and Megaman.

Everlasting chords and bass kicks alongside an Eiffel 65-esque vocal open this beautiful track. Building endlessly, layer upon layer are piled on before dropping into a pool of smashing bliss. Epic midi melodies compliment the vocal that push everything straight to the dancefloor. You might want to save this track for the end of the set. Kaleb's Dusty Blinds has the word “explosion” written all over it, and by the time the last beat drops, no dust will remain. Could there be an upcoming remix titled “Clean Blinds?” Nah. We'll just stick to what we have.

Just as with the previous release, Blu Saphir's ninth release once again reaches deep within the French quarters, this time featuring newcomer W.T. (Hammer Records, Sidechain Recordings) of Avignon and the combination of Youthman & Redeyes as Soul Mosaics.

And as the names of Youthman and Redeyes have been gaining popularity over the last few years, fresh talent, W.T. is making his own mark on the worldwide sound of drum 'n bass. Influenced jump up and techno, the man from South France was recently featured on Innovation at Ministry of Sound Radio with his tune, “Womp Story.”

Those who are familiar with the Blu Saphir back catalogue might remember 006's anthem, “Jade Sunrise” by Chino. Just as in that piece, a simple piano line leads to a symphony of elements, eventually giving way to a massive deep bassline and beautiful vocal. The b-line really kicks on this one and is a big support to the vocal throughout the track. Don't be fooled though. The music might pause for a second, but that's only the cue that leads the way to another intro to let you relive the goodness one more time.

Peyo is a man of many different styles. His creation of the signature “cinema-concert nights,” a distinctive “4-deck DJ-theater show” (performed alongside the Electrons Libres.) has opened eyes across the globe to new techniques in live music. Playing everything from drum ‘n bass to breakbeat, electro, funk and soul, his impeccable, creative mixes have landed him a residency with the legendary Dragon Crew. Playing many shows across his home country and Europe with an impressive list of top notch producers to include Moby, Keaton, Dillinja, Amon Tobin, Shimon and MC Stamina, these credits have cemented his stature as a mixologist in the French drum ‘n bass scene for over a decade. Peyo maintains a busy schedule with recent releases on Bingo Beats and Vandal, a weekly radio show on Toulouse’s FMR Radio with Redeyes, “Breakbeat Experience” and various guest appearances on premier broadcasts, including Fabio’s program on UK BBC, Flight’s Next Chapter and Bailey’s Intabeats.

Not to be confused with the early Cloud 9 (of You’ve Got Me Burnin’ fame), The Funktastics’ Cloud Nine takes a step outside of his group for a superb solo effort with the man mentioned above. Don’t let the name fool you though. Despite the obvious similarity to one of Nookie’s earliest productions, this man is no newcomer to D&B. Putting on events since the mid-nineties with the Dity Crew alongside fellow Funktastics mate, Cosa, “C Nine” has brought out many big names including Andy C, Shy FX and High Contrast. If his more recent releases on Friction’s Shogun Audio and SGN:LTD, Spin Recordings and Sidechain-Music weren’t enough, look out for more discrete and deeper sounds in the pipeline!

The RM remix presents a different take on this brilliant piece of work. The trademarked, upbeat feel that is ever-present on so many of Blu Saphir’s releases is definitely noticed here. The vocals are chopped and looped throughout the track amidst multiple driving drum sections. A simple bassline adds the depth while the staple elements roll the track out to the finish.

Conquest System:

The delay on this mega-collaboration has seemed to be infinite, but Conquest System will finally see the light of day on Blu Saphir’s seventh release! Drop this on the big system and watch the crowd go crazy! Every time I hear this one in rotation, the melody immediately pulls me in. The flamenco-style guitars crescendo into the melody via a high-hat keeping time. These beautifully composed guitar riffs form the core, leading the way to an array of articulate drums and amazing sounds. You’ll want to put this one on repeat. One listen simply isn’t enough!

My mouth hit the floor as soon as I heard this one. DJ Roots and The Ego create the backdrop while Ill-Esha sings her heart out in the foreground. If you’re a fan of vocals, you’re going to love this one. Her vivacious tones create the vibe on the dancefloor while the techy bassline forms a harmony that can’t be matched anywhere else. Universe is my pick on this release. Big up the Ego, Roots, Bungle and Ill-Esha on a job well done!

The last few years have been a turning point in the more chilled out styles of drum 'n bass. Many new labels are being formed, and some would begin to question where to start looking for the most eclectic music. Rising in the shadows of a long list of liquid legends including Defunked, Renegade Recordings, Hospital, Creative Source and Good Looking, Blu Saphir rolls through with its' second release of 2007, featuring Chino and Submorphics.

Jade Sunrise:

I can't start this review without first starting how magnificent this tune is. Beautiful arpeggios sweep forward from the intro, but it's not long at all before the bassline drops. Dance floor vibes and a sexy sax line emphasize the top before an even more spine-tingling midi melody puts this one over. The mid-point of the tune sees a attractively sung vocal bridge before section A comes back around. There's nothing else to say about this one. It's definitely one of the best Blu Saphir has put out since day one!

Revisions:

Fix your televisions! Submorphics coming through your speakers! Starting out a bit harder than the previous, Submorphics do a great job in sustaining the energy created on side A. A man singing about his girl “standing by him” repeats throughout the tune amidst vastly filtered atmospherics. A nicely picked bassline accompanies the latter, as the tune comes around full circle to finish out number 6 to the end.

After two successful releases on Blu Saphir this year, 2006 is scheduled to begin with a bang. Blu Saphir 003 revisits the first release and gives it the remix treatment, Bungle on Contour’s “Synapse” and Muffler on Twintone and DJ Rome’s “I Try.”

Synapse (Bungle Remix):

As my pick for the first release, I had a hard time believing that this tune could be outdone. Fortunately, I was wrong, and Sao Paulo’s Bungle did an excellent job on the rework of this tune. Starting out slow, filtered vocals build up the atmospherics which eventually lead to the first drop. Pure dancefloor business here, folks. The bassline is brought out more and the drums have a more articulate feel than on the original piece.

I Try (Muffler Remix):

Who would have thought that it would be Muffler doing the rework on this piece? Known for his hard, techy sound, Muffler holds back on this one, finishing up the first Blu Saphir release for 2006. Featuring snappy drums and a funky bassline, the don of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre takes it down to show a bit of his lighter side. Expect the unexpected with this tune.

Contour is a 21 year - old producer from Helsinki / Finland who has been producing tunes since 1998, though his musical roots go back more than 10 years ago when he first discovered his love for music through learning how to play the guitar. He then spent some time playing in bands gaining musical experience and know how. He also had a music teacher who influenced him in a big way by showing him the esential roots stuff but at the same time letting him interpret them in his own way leading to the development of a unique style which Contour trys to bring across in his productions.
Due to his broad musical taste including hip hop, 50's, 60's jazz, 70's funk, 80's fusion plus a touch of classical music his tunes are soulful, yet powerful enough to get any dancefloor rocking with ease. As far as drum & bass influences goes, High Contrast and Blu Sonix are always on his mind when searching for insperation. Look out for future releases from Contour on Planet Funk Recs, Liquid V Recs, Midnight Sun Recs and off course on Blu Saphir Recordings.

Twintone and DJ Rome are two German producers who have teamed up for this stunning first release on BluSaphir Recordings. Twintone is already well known in the German drum & bass scene having released tunes previously on Position Chrome Recordings. He plays both the piano and the guitar and is also active in other genres producing electronical music in all shapes and guises.
Dj Rome is a DJ from Frankfurt a. Main who has up until now concentrated mainly on his DJing activity but in the past two years has also become increasingly active on the production side of things. After getting introduced to drum & bass in '96 by a friend he immediately got involved in the music and his love for the scene has always encouraged him to take the next step. The result of this is a tune called "I Try", a souly liquid funk style production which showcases the BluSaphir sound ideally. Look forward to more in the months ahead!
